I have been having an interesting conversation on Facebook about a lesson in being prepared to succeed called the 10,000 hours rule. It seems research has been carried out that highlights the level of expertise that comes from studying at 10,000 hours of your chosen craft.
In the research I read it mentioned violinists – those that practiced for 10,000 hours became professionals, 8,000 hours had a little success and those who went into teaching 4,000 hours. One of the commentators on my Facebook post said that her son was told to become a professional footballer (soccer) he had to put in 10,000 hours.
So I guess you know where I am going with this? The number one reason people fail at internet marketing is because they give up too soon and another reason is that they jump from one idea to another. In the research of these experts and millionaires the one thing they did was pick ONE chosen specialism and all of their efforts went into being good at that one thing.
So using that as an example you could say if you are going to become an eBay power seller millionaire you need to be willing to put in 10,000 hours into becoming an expert.
If you are going to become great at selling eBook on Kindle you need to put in 10,000 hours into writing and marketing your eBooks as well as mastering the best way to sell them on Kindle.
Be Prepared To Learn
The other thing that was evident in those who had succeeded was the fact that they spent a huge amount of money on their education. They were willing to buy whatever book, CD, or attend any seminar it took to make it work for them.
You have to be willing not only to get great at what you do but to keep improving and striving towards something so you are always challenging yourself to get better.
Now take a look at your internet marketing career so far. Is that something you are doing? Have you put in the time and invested in your education? I know I have and while I haven’t put anywhere near 10,000 hours.
How Many Years Will That Take?
So, let’s have a look at this in practical terms.
